Interview with Martijn
Time to get to know a bit more about Martijn. You've seen the work, let's hear a little something about the person.Give us a short introduction about you.
Hello! My name is Martijn van Zal. I'm currently 24 years old (may be subject to change). I'm working as team-leader in a dutch e-business company called ASP4all. In my private time I like to watch a good movie, surf over the internet or read a good book. I'm currently reading "Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown (Very good!)
Where did you grow up? Tell us a little story about the young you.
I grew up in a little place called Blaricum in the Netherlands, I went to school in Huizen, where I got to know Arno, Martin, Marvin, and a couple of other friends. This is where the first idea's about a place like GFXartist came to life. But before that we made a website for our school. (absolutely hidious, but I'll see if I can find a screenshot from it somewhere) Later I build a site with a large database of ready to use Javascripts called SYNTAX_ERROR. It was hosted under martin's subdomain on 3dpallette.
Have you been educated in what you do? Where did you study and how much do you profit from it?
I've studied Computer Science at the Hogeschool van Utrecht. (and did not profit from it at all
Wich programs do you use and what do you use them for?
I usually build the websites in a text-editor like TextPad of VIM. I work with PHP, MySQL, Smarty (Template parser), XML, XSLT (both not used on GFXartist)
How do you work on improving yourself? Any secrets you'd like to share?
I Try to follow the newest standards of W3C, XHTML, Design websites with the use of CSS. Reading a couple of weblogs to keep track of the newest gadgets in the internet-world.
