Enhanced votingIn the past days, I have been taking my first steps into this new web technology called Ajax. Today I decided to put it to the test, and wrote my first code to submit the votes on artworks on GFXartist with Ajax. This means that the page will no longer have to reload to proccess the vote, thus giving a much smoother experience for our visitors. They can click the vote button, and imidiately start typing a comment. When the vote is processed it is displayed in the vote box. Currently the amount of votes, and the score of the artwork is not updated until the next reload of the page, but i don't think it's a big issue. Please tell me what you think of it, and let me know if you experience any problems with voting. |

Member blogsWe wanted to give the individual blogs of our members a little more attention than they have now, so we created a page with the latest 15 blogs of all members. A perfect way for our members to let us know what they're up to, what they think and what tips and trick they have to share. Want to get blogging? Head over to your subdomain and select the blog section. A GFXplus subscription is required. The rss feed of all combined blogs can be found here: http://www.gfxartist.com/general/member_blogs/rss |

Member gallery #1 -> Random best artworkWe changed the function of the "Member gallery #1"-window on the frontpage. The contents in that window became a bit boring after a while (I mean not the artwork, but the fact that it showed the same artwork for allmost a week). When an artwork reaches number-1 status and is featured on the frontpage it will stay there for a long time. So we decided we wanted some diversity. We currently select the 50 best pieces of art every night (@000) but we will fine-tune the selection process a little. eventually we wan't to select the same amounts of artworks in each category (so every category gets the same amount of exposure) and maybe we can try to select some artworks which are not in the top 10, but the ones just below it. If members are interested to get a message when one of their works is selected for the frontpage we can build that too... (just an idea, let us know!) |

New bookmark feature and several other tweaksWe have just released the Bookmark feature. As with all functions that are regarded as extra, the Bookmarks are only available to GFXplus members. These bookmarks aren't your average shortcuts. All items in the site (news items, artworks, forum topics, etc) now have a bookmark button sitting the top right corner of their windows. Clicking that button will store the item on your bookmarks page, which can be accessed through the memberbar. Besides easy access, the overview conveniently displays the amount of new comments/critiques/replies since your last visit to that item. You no longer have to reserve a part of your brain to keep track of all the discussions you're involved in, we do that for you. This feature has often been requested and I am sure you'll love it. There have also been some other (minor) changes and enhancements available for all members: RSS Feeds A more comprehensive selection of RSS feeds is now available. When you hit a members profile, the available RSS feed lists the artworks and blog posts of that member. The member's artworks page has a feed for just his/her artwork and the member's blog page has a feed for just his/her blog entries. We will soon add more data to the RSS feeds and make sure the feeds can be automatically discovered by the common rss readers. Birth Dates Although already fixed a while back, the birthdates are finally saved and displayed correctly. Artwork views Broken, fixed and improved. Reloads will no longer add up the amount of views, making the numbers a more realistic representation. Print Stylesheet GFXartist is now printable due to a new stylesheet for print. While the new stylesheet is not flawless and will screw up a long list of comments, it's a step in the right direction. Edit Comment A nasty bug surfaced which wouldn't let you save a modified comment. This bug is fixed now. Besides the big changes which will require a significant amount of discussion behind the scenes here before they are ready for implementation, there will be more of these small changes and new features based on the requests we've so far received. |
